Design Our Future

Design Our Future, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that operates annual science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (“STEM”) design competitions for students to support STEM educational growth opportunities for high school students.

Our Mission

The mission of Design Our Future is to provide high school students who have an interest in problem-solving in STEM fields (including engineering, architecture, medicine, and public health) with a chance to create plans and systems to better our world (and earn financial prizes for themselves and their schools).

Annual Challenges

Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, Design of Future began operating annual design challenges for high school students that focus on creating solution concepts to address global problems that will impact our home communities by 2050 (and perhaps sooner). For the inaugural 2023-2024 Challenge, the top challenge prizes were awarded to Joseph Wowczuk from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Stephen James Gregg from University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia.  To learn more about our second annual U.S. High School Challenge for the 2024-2025 school year with additional prize opportunities, jump here.

History

Design Our Future is supported by donations from companies that solve public sector problems, meet non-profit missions, and support the commercialization of innovative technologies. Design Our Future was founded by Morgantown High School (West Virginia) student, Natalie Esposito, with support from a board of directors and advisors, including domain experts, educational professionals, and professional service providers. Design Our Future engages an array of public service leaders, management consultants, and technologists to assess challenge submissions and make awards.
